This was a beautiful and moving essay, Bill. It resonates with with my experience as well, being caught up between cultures and ways of perceiving money. A powerful line, "It wasn’t until I stopped rejecting his love that I could experience it for the first time." I also grew up envying non Asian friends who had parents who emotionallly engaged in their lives. I still find myself uncomfortable receiving money from my parents. In high school, I used to keep tabs on how much they gave me, telling them I'd pay them back one day. Of course they didn't care and never asked for it. It was their sign of love and wanting me to have a good life foundation.

Your writing helps me make this mindset shift even more. Thanks for sharing!
